This article originated from the Draper / Hiscocks Athens Olympic medal winning campaign. As a result of many requests for rope specs we used, here follows a quick guide to our sheet specs. Watch this space for the next update with control lines, halyard specs and a guide on mast set up.
Main Sheet Spec.

Main sheet is 6mm Gottifredi Maffioli new swift.
The split part is Holt vectran pro line.
Jib Sheet Spec.

The tapered part is 4mm Marlow excel racing, this joins to 6mm Gottifredi Maffioli new swift or for a lighter alternative Holt Pro Sheet. It is joined at the knot shown in the image above. This forms a 3 part sheet. The foward 4mm part will wear out more frequently than the rest so can be replaced with less impact on the pocket.
The main sheet and jib sheet are joined together with a knot. This knot forms the knot in the mainsheet that stops the boom going out to far.
The total length of this system is a critical part of 49er sailing. A short sheet system will make it very hard to let out anough mainsheet on windy bear aways. A long one and its possible to let out lots of both sheets and a surprisingly easy time on the bear away.
Kite Sheet Spec.

Rope Spec
Gottifredi Maffioli new swift or Marlow Fusion 6mm.
They are taped or tied together at the loose ends in the boat. The loop is pushed through the clew eye with the sheets passing through the loop to attache the sheets to the kite.
